Netbooks Are Popular Airport Companions

By Reggie Stimson

In recent years the computer industry has taken laptop computers and made them even more compact and mobile. These are called netbooks, and they are small enough to fit in a simple bag or purse to be taken wherever you go. They are easy to pull out and use, even in the most crowded areas like an airport.

Most of us, at one time or another, have been stuck in an airport with nothing to do. We can't board the flight yet, or the one we're waiting for has been seriously delayed. This has led to countless people sitting around an airport significantly bored and, worse, unproductive. A laptop could possibility alleviate this, but they're still a little unwieldy. At times like this, a netbook is probably the better choice.

Even though laptops have gotten more compact over the years, it can still be hard to use them in tight quarters. They also generate a large amount of heat, which can be very uncomfortable if you actually rest it on your lap for extended periods of time. All computers generate heat as a matter of course, but netbooks are extremely energy efficient, and you won't have to leave such a small machine on your lap for such a long time.

It's important to note, however, that netbooks were never meant for heavy usage. You won't see any hardcore gamers setting up a netbook in an airport to get in a quick game. Netbooks are more appropriate for those who want to watch their movies, keep in touch with their favorite multimedia sites, or just listen to some music.

Netbooks may not be full-featured laptops, but they still have a number of benefits that make them very valuable the casual buyer. First among them is the price - the simple affordability of a netbook has made them extremely popular items. Now you can stay connected without breaking the bank.

Another benefit is the smaller size. Most netbooks are between nine and eleven inches across. That means they are also comparatively light weight, which means you it won't drag you down as you quickly make your way across the airport terminal to catch a flight.

Netbooks also come with top-of-the-line wireless equipment, and there are many places within an airport that will allow you to connect to the Internet. This way you can stay connected with your email, social media, and any other online applications while you wait for your flight.

Netbooks continue to grow in popularity. The technology also continues to develop and the slimmed-down designs become even more powerful. If you have to travel a lot and find yourself going from airport to airport, a netbook might be the best tool for the job.
