Advancements In Brochure Printing In Recent Years

By Jason Clark

Distributing brochures has always been a successful promotion tactic for any organization. They can be kept on store counters, handed out to spread the word about a company, or even mailed to potential clients. The need to have brochures printed has led to the growth of a sector of the printing services business, which specially caters to brochures. There have been many revolutionary changes in brochure printing in recent years and the internet along with digital technologies is ushering many of them.

At a time when computers hadn't made their foray into brochure printing, the whole thing was a laborious activity involving use of plate-making machines and film negatives, and the steps involved creating multiple test prints, changing all the settings, and what not. Even design choices were limited, with the printers doing the bulk of the design jobs and only the most basic input coming from the customer.

On the other hand, now brochures are designed, sent across to the printer, and edited on computers, often by the client himself, and the final product is printed and delivered within a much shorter time span. Delivery of final prints in bulk in a single day is possible now, thanks to improvements in technology.

One must not forget that brochure printing involves cautious consideration of aspects like content, design and layout. The use of digital technology in the printing process has revolutionised these aspects, offering a plethora of choices, including higher quality full-colour printing, modern and complicated layout options, and content-building packages.

Amongst the several advanced choices provided by printing services providers, digital brochures and full-colour brochures are most in demand. Such brochures are apt to be used on a medium or long-term basis. But when it comes to brochure circulation in huge numbers, but for a limited time span, then dazzling but concise brochures that have a brief print run are the most suitable for the purpose. The traditional technique of off-set printing is still most appropriate for such brochures, as bulk prints within a short time is achievable, though making of brochures takes more time in this kind of printing.

Ancillary services are now offered by a lot of printing service providers in addition to the quality improvements in the prints. Direct mailing, distribution and design are some of these extra services.

The internet has radically altered the scenario, with customers now using websites of printing companies and placing online orders after selecting designs and colour schemes from the comfort of their office. Thus, brochure printing has changed a lot in a relatively short time, and the rate of advancements does not seem to be slowing down at all.
