5 Secrets To Staying At Home And Making Money On The Internet

By Rich Trewheart

Most web pages are designed to get the reader to do something. What that something is will help you determine how to design your web page. In other words: Make sure your design leads naturally into persuading the reader of your web page into taking the action you want him or her to take. The great architect, Louis Sullivan said it clearly that "form follows function." This article will assume that you want your web page to sell something. Perhaps you have no web page right now or you have one but it isn't converting enough sales and you want to improve its performance. I have a much longer report about designing effective sales pages, and this article will discuss 5 of the techniques that will make any sales page on the web perform better.

1 - Use various fonts and colors. Using one color and one font is boring. Bored people don't buy, they leave. Use bright vibrant colors and multiple font styles and text sizes to capture interest and guide the reader's eye to the part you want them to read. Use color, shading and font size to make the "buy button" stand out on the page. Have several buy buttons on the page so that the reader has multiple opportunities to buy. Since most people don't read a web page (they scan it) you must make their scanning more effective and that's what color and font can do for you.

2 - Give people a reason to buy - today. Everybody loves a "deal" and people on the internet are no different. You have to provide more value and one way to do that is add a "free bonus" or a "one time offer" or a discount that expires in 12 hours or something that sweetens the deal. Why does an appliance dealer advertise the "red tag special?" Because it works. Obviously using any, or all, of these offers won't result in a 100% sales conversion. Nothing will do that. But if you combine these ideas, you will get more buyers and make more money.

3 - People are inherently mistrustful of buying on the internet. They have heard about scams and may have been a victim of one themselves. You have to gain their trust quickly. One way to to this is to make it easy for them to contact you. Some internet marketers are outsourcing a customer service phone or offering "instant chat" to make their potential customers feel that there is a person on the other end of the web page. Using testimonial from happy customers is also a great way to make your potential customers trust that your product will solve their problem.

4 - Stick with the familiar. Have on your page things that people know. For example, having a Paypal option allows people who have used Paypal to feel more comfortable about buying from you. If your product has any write-ups in magazines or newspapers or if you can put "As Seen on TV" on your web page will add credibility and trust.

5 - Testing, testing, testing is the key to success. There are so many subtle reasons that people buy from one and not another. We'll never understand them all. But we don't have to understand why, we just have to find out what makes people buy what we're offering. So test different background colors: Is orange better than blue? Send half your potential customers to the orange page and the other half to the blue. Does one page convert more sales? Keep it and try another background color like green. Do the same for font color and change the words too. Split test everything, it's the magic formula.
